I know that it has been over a month since Easter, and we all shouted, "He is Risen!".
But guess what, we are still sitting in the Easter season. I have been thinking a lot about Easter and the Resurrection more this week than I did when it was Easter.
This is my last week in Wisconsin, and it feels weird. Another season of life has ended, but a new one is about to begin. Even during Easter week, there is a time between the time the tomb is sealed and the time that Jesus was not there when the ladies went to prepare his body for the burial. This was a time of grief and disbelief of what had just occurred in the days before.
Today was Good Friday and Easter in one for me, I got to say goodbye to my virtual year of Service cohort which has been my place of stability this year and new friendships growing out of our time together. And then I had 1 hour to walk the dog and grab lunch before I hopped onto another call to meet my new housemates for the next year of in-person service that I will be doing.
I had one hour to grieve the end of one thing but then was able to enjoy the new season of life that is coming faster than the train. It was also ironic that while I walked the dog during this hour of grief, the Wisconsin sky blessed me with some light rainfall. The kind of rain that is just light enough to feel but not enough to make waves in the puddles or to be seen against the foggy gray sky.
Where am I going you ask?? Well if you couldn't tell by the title of my blog and all the lobsters crawling all over. I am going to New Orleans (New Oar-Lense) to serve as a YAV for the 2021-2022 year. I also know that I will be serving my community at the YMCA program called YES! (YMCA Educational Services) Where in partnership with the New Orleans Public Library, YES! gives adults the math, reading, and computer skills they need to advance at work, assist their children at school, and be active, engaged citizens. We work with non-readers who want to function better in their daily lives, adults seeking a high school diploma, and workers who need to improve their math and reading skills to advance on the job. I will also be helping serve in the main offices with the YMCA GNO development director to help plan the large 5k called the Corporate Classic and also learning some career skills like grant writing and creating corporate partnerships.
And as part of the program, I have pledged that I will raise $4,000 by the end of 2021. If you would like to support me in this endeavor, please donate at https://www.neworleansyav.com/donate. When making a donation online, please do not forget to include my name in the note section.
See you soon, New Orleans!
